What is Mosaic?
Established in 2015, Mosaic United is a global initiative of Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, dedicated to strengthening Jewish identity, connections to heritage, community, and Israel.
The teen years are among the most formative in a young Jew’s life, when questions of identity, purpose, and belonging take root. Mosaic United invests in immersive experiences that meet teens at this critical stage, empowering them to explore their Jewish identity and build a meaningful, lasting connection to Israel. This grant is not means based or tested, and does not affect or detract from the bursary awards available.
Am I Eligible?
For Summer 2026 subsidies of £2,200 will be available to applicants with limited engagement in Jewish and/or Israel experiences. This status will be determined through the following criteria:
Geography – Where you live, and your ease of access to core Jewish communal hubs and infrastructure.
Engagement – Your previous involvement in Jewish Youth Movement programming and residentials. Your involvement in Jewish communal life including synagogues, schools, and life-cycle events
Israel – Your previous visits and experiences in Israel, including holidays and educational travel.
You don’t have to meet all these criteria. Just one will make you eligible for consideration, and subsidies are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
What are the conditions?
A core component of our teen experiences are Mifgashim (personal encounters with Israeli peers). These powerful connections bridge distance and difference, creating shared understanding, friendship, and unity between teens in the Diaspora and in Israel.
Israel Tour participants who have received the Mosaic award are required to complete eight hours of structured learning about Israel prior to the programme, reducing knowledge gaps and therefore enhancing the level of Israel education for the group as a whole.
Of the 8 hours, 4.5 hours must be spent on mandatory specific activities carefully selected for you by both the funders of the grant and FZY. You will have some freedom with the remaining 3.5 hours, as you can choose from a curated list of over 20 hours of different activities designed to enrich your experience pre-Israel Tour and help you connect with the FZY community and Israeli peers. You have the freedom to pick what works best for you and your child with a busy GCSE period coming up. Please note that at least 2.5 of the 4.5 hours of the specific mandatory activities must be dedicated to mifgashim—online Zoom meetings with Israeli peers of the same age.
How do I apply?
There will be a separate section with details on how to apply for the grant within the initial form when you apply for Tour. Alternatively, you can apply below. The deadline for this application is 18th January 2026.
