Throughout
the year FZY undertakes many tzedakah activties, from local old
age home visiting to assisting national telethons. In addition
to these FZY choses a national project which we regularly support,
reviewed annually by our Tzedakah Officers.
FZY is currently raising funds for a UJIA project for Ethiopian
children who have recently arrived in Israel. All charity raised
by FZY this year is going towards giving these under-privileged
children the opportunity to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah in Jerusalem.
The money
raised will fund lessons, clothing, a three-day educational summer
camp, candlesticks or tefillin and the big day itself at the Great
Synagogue in Jerusalem.
This tzedakah project is particularly appropriate to FZY since it
fulfils all four of FZYs aims: Tzedakah, Aliya (the children
have just moved to Israel from Ethiopia), Tarbut (culture) and Magen
(defence of Jewish rights).
In 2002 members of FZY contributed £24,000 to the tzedakah
project and we are continuing to raise money to this very worthy
cause.

"The
funds you raise allow the children and families to benefit
from
all sorts of educational and extra-curricular programming,
helping to make
a difficult transition from one culture to another easier"
