Welcome to FZY Hanhaga in America

What is it?

Based in Upstate New York, Hanhaga is FZY’s new American camp experience 17 year olds (year 12 in England, year 5 in Scotland). FZY is joing with our American sister movement, Young Judaea, to provide an innovative and exciting programme for those chanichim (participants) looking for a summer that is different from anything they have ever experienced before.

Hanhaga is an international leadership and activism programme. Chanichim will be joined by Americans and Israelis and other teenagers from around the world in learning leadership skills, social and political activism and running activities for campers at Tel Yehudah.

Hanhaga participants will have the unique experience of becoming a part of an American Summer Camp, based at Young Judaea’s senior leadership camp Tel Yehuda (TY). Every summer, TY plays host to over 500 13-18 year old chanichim on its 150 acre site. Hanhaga is a truly international programme with FZY participants being joined by Americans, Israelis and other young Jews from all over the world.

The focus of the programme will be leadership skills, social and political action and what it means to be an activist. Everyday on Hanhaga will include activities designed to help the participant gain these enhanced leadership skills. This will include being educated by experts on a range of international issues and strengthening this knowledge by travelling to Washington DC to see the Capitol Building and the White House. There will also be a trip into New York City where participants will visit the United Nations and of course have time for the obligatory shopping!

Just as important to the programme is the TY experience and the incredible facilities available: including a ropes course, a brand new water sports centre, climbing walls, tennis courts, volleyball nets, football pitches, performing arts facilities and experts to help in every field. A day rafting will also be part of the Hanhaga programme. All participants will be fully registered campers at Tel Yehudah and benefit from all the facilities, staffing and insurance afforded to any participant.
