Adam is the ‘Rakaz Tsafon’ for the 2011/12 movement team.
What is your full name?
Adam Broude
How old are you (you can refuse to answer!)?
24
What is your position in the office team and can you let us in on any inside plans you may have for this year?
Rakaz Tzafon – Northern Fieldworker
My plans for this year are to develop the existing chavurot in the North and actively seek new communities for FZY to connect to. I want to further enhance the Northern Hadracha course to include a second year programme. Penultimately I want to facilitate active Bogrim in Northern universities and finally I want to connect FZY with the wider community.
Do you have any nick-names?
Everyone and I mean everyone calls me Broude (BR-OWE-DEE). I hear it so much I’ve started introducing myself as Broude.
What is your favourite FZY experience ever!?
I had the fantastic opportunity to take Hanhaga, an ATID programme in New York with Americans, Brits and Israelis. The chanichim were amazing and inspired me to continue in the movement. It is extra special to see these chanichim still in the movement becoming inspirational madrichim.
What football team do you support?
I don’t support any teams but I love to play and watch football. I do have an American football team that I support – The Pittsburgh Steelers.
If you had to pick one person from throughout history that you look up to and respect more than anyone else who would it be and why?
Mordacai Manuel Noah – A Jewish, American writer from the 1700’s. He fought for the rights of Jews in America and bought land in New York as a safe-haven for the Jews. A utopian colony that he called Ararat (the mountain on which Noah’s ark lay). His Zionist ideals came before those of Herzl. The thought that every idea isn’t as unique as you think is really empowering and I like to find out its origins. It is also useful to see what ideas worked in the past and if they can be updated for current times.
If you could have one band or artist on your MP3 player who would it be?
Eva Cassidy. Her voice in incredible and her melodies are hypnotic. I probably listen to her at least once a week.
Who do you think will be the craziest person in the office this coming year and why?
Gili, because she’s the only one with me in the Northern office and she is going to have to deal with me!
Give us a final message for all the FZY-niks this year
There is always more you can learn. I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “practice makes perfect.” Well this phrase isn’t complete. You need to add to it “perfect practice makes perfect, PERFECT!!!”
